Firstly - I don't play this game - so I'm probably talking bollocks here.
The Collapsing Collapse Window Trigger
Firstly - it's not really my idea.
I begged Roger Norris for help on this whole collapse thing. It turns
out that he hasn't read the books but just reading the crud I've
summarised on this website he came up with a number of concepts to
consider.
One of these was
Collapsing "Windows"
I was hoping for a simple mathematical solution based on game parameters - I like this concept
Mathematically I am inadequate for this task so I'll attempt to summarise in text?
Create simple algorithms that create mathematical "windows" for survival - limits.
Step outside those limits and the race collapses.
Tricky thing is, the "windows" size - shrinks based on Turn Number.
Window 1 = White (HG) to Total Population Ratio
(%HG vs Statistical "Norm")
Basically - at game start and after each collapse you get a wide lee-way for %HG say +/- 100%?
This lee-way shrinks turn by turn until you reach turn 25 (+/- 5 turns
random) by which time it eventually becomes ZERO - collapse occurs
Window 2 = Happiness Ratio
(Current Happiness vs Statistical "Norm")
erm...
To deter mass euthenasia, make sure that the death of population
reduces happiness. Make this a negative modifier for Window 1. It
should counteract blatant abuse by hastening the collapse.
BUT - only a bit!
It should be allowed/expected that a jolly canny micromanaging player
should be able to extend the "window" limits by, say, 5 turns i.e. 15
to 25 turns?
Playing the race inside these two windows - the normal result should be a "Zero Window" averaging about 25 turns?
The "Zero Window" is Collapse.
