The "Mad Tourist" is a "Personality NON-Player Ship" designed to add a sparkle of the "absurd" into scripted games. It is designed to be fundamentally indestructible
- but only mildly "annoying" to players, Perhaps best played by a
trusted NPC Player or a good AI? There should only be one in a game
although if hosts want to magnify the effect they may add more. It
might also be interesting to develop identical looking ships with
different properties so that players are not sure will happen?
The main idea is to be like that "annoying fly" that buzzes around and
annoys people. It is a Tourist from a much more advanced universe and is
very naive.
In action : it whizzes around looking for the highest Tech ship it
can find in local scanner range - scoots up to it thinking "Oh WOW!
Cooool!!!", then "photographs" it with the Tachyon Emitter - and provided
no-one" interests" it further by firing at it ("OOOOHH!!! Fireworks!
More photos!!! ") it buzzes off again to find someone else to "annoy" after dropping off a "wad of cash" (gold pod) as a gratuity for "those
quaint little locals" .
Provided a decent AI/NPC Player is available it then shoots off 100's
of LYs to another "random" part of the Universe and starts all over
again annoying some other player.
The gold pod gratuity is something like a "lottery" for the victim - a maximum of 1000mc but the median amount ~ 100 mc
Gold Pod Gratuity Maths
for each GoldPod
begin
let x := random(eps....1.0)
let
amount(GoldPod) := min(1000, -330*log10(x))
end
Net result? The Universe is subjected to random "flashes" of Tachyon
"revealment" around important Hi-Tech ships (not bases by preference) -
the data for which will decay over time but can be mildly annoying if
it happens at the wrong time? The victims get a "splash of cash"
from this stupid idiot as recompense. When it runs out of pods to pay
with - it leaves the game - vacation over!
"I visited the Yale Cluster and All I Got was this lousy Target Enhancer!!"
NPC Player Tips?
Use the scanners to try and
interesting Ships - but try to avoid being close to important bases
early in the game when taking "pictures"? It might be best if the
Tourist ambled around on the periphery of the main empires to start
with?
The camper is perfectly designed - it's just the driver who
is clueless?
"No, no NO! Dearest! The navvygatchy thing is just an "aide"
- REAL explorers go out to investigate the _real_ "native" natives in their
natural environment - this is definitely the right area! Look at all those
tribal
fireworks displays they have! Did we finish off all the cheesy
balls nibbles last night?"

I like this one. I think it might need a little tweaking. If it is
indestructible, then it does not need Small weapons. Also, max Pod bays
is 20. With a crew size of 4, this ship will be easily captured once the 4
crewmen are dead in combat. Max Shields are 3000. You can setup modifiers
or special hull rules. Like Ship is immune to Shield drain and/or Armor
Drain. I think this is the best route to get what you want. But you will
need to make sure it can not be used as a weapon. I recommend loosing all
weapons if you do this. I also recommend loosing the pod bays. It doesn't
need them if it is creating them. You will need a (Tip Generator) device if
you want to use that code outlined. Also, normal engine max speed is
190lys. If you want it to be faster, you will need to add a Gravitronic
Accelerator. Also, no need for a power bank. Cargo should be limited, but
that is optional.
