Seeks out and removes mines.  Excess quantities of minefields can bog a game down.  This would be a means of undoing the entrenched.  Something reminiscent of a giant Electrolux would be fantastic.  Navigational logic would be easy…seek out highest mine density.

I love the imagery! It might be more silly looking if it looked like a standing vaccuum cleaner (e.g. Dyson) rather than a floor version - although I like the elephants trunk sucker idea!? I could imagine it might act more like woodworm, chewing tunnels of clear space through minefield areas? Keep the players on their toes? Destructable - not easily - but notcaptureable?

The long snout, light blue marbleized texture with lots of chrome detailing.  There is not much sense in making all of the ships “powerful”.  Give it Hyp and decent warp speed and a degree of toughness from mine hits.

Yup, sounds like an organic thing then, you can kill them fairly easily, but not build or capture one? Like woodworm it should be rather random so probably better as a AI Race - if a number of them do knock a complete hole in a minefield screen it would be a random event? Sort of  galactic Infestation - should breed automatically. I may certainly influence the minefield aspect of the game? Does that detriment some races more than others significantly

A few races rely heavily on minefields – crystals and robots come to mind.  Some races such as Stormers and Centaurs with light fast ships would be able to take advantage of holes.

I'd like to suggest another name? "Mineworms"? I definitely like the fun idea of the chrome! Perhaps add it to the "looney" but annoying category along with the Tourist! I'm not _too_ worried about "balance" for mine-dependent races - a lot of the decision-process for items like this is down to the script-writer, a heavy onus is in his hands? We are merely providing the "ingredients". However - it might indicate that they should be more "random" rather than attracted to concentrations of mines.
There is always a possibility that some "things" may be "manipulated/lured" into doing things against others too, for your own advantage?

A Great Idea.  Not sure about the ability to let it roam on it's own, but a ship that is immune to Mines and sweeps them is great.  It could even "Recover" mines from other races, and once it's ord bay is full, reproduce.  This is fantastic.  A NPC player could control them.  I like the name Mine Worm best.
