Idea : Peter Chambers
A small fleet of ships moves from planet to planet. Although they look very
fast they travel at speeds randomly assigned between 72 and 80. Each time
the first ship reaches a target it selects a new target (e.g. populated
world within 300 lyr) and a speed. It waits for the other, who choose new
speeds.
They race off to the new target.
In a wacky
manner.
For they are the wacky racers... a miscellany of mad designs from
flying castles to V2 style. They have powerful (300 range) scanners and
fairly high hull warp signatures. Some have Ad Logos. Fags and Booze logos
are common.
Needs different graphics for each one - that should keep people busy!
How many would we need? (Olly)
This is a little like the tourist but less intrusive. These are obvious
"Gumball" types (with the odd rocket-mad German or Brit thrown in). They
probably have a very advanced "fuel less" drive but their racing formula
limits the class to speed 80. Each leg their driving skill differs so the
race goes more or less well for each.
The pop planets are the local
"audience" who they keep awake at night with their inconsiderate light show.
Possibly trans-galactic sport-channel has ships in with them. Just what you
don't want in early game turns!
Is there a way the players might be able to bet "stuff" on the results
of each leg??? Sweepstake maybe? One racer per race in the game - each
race automatically or voluntarily submits xMC into the kitty and is assigned
a racer, the winner gets the kitty (minus 5% to pay for fuel) or something?
That could happen automatically with races that like gambling. Use the central
bank account with direct deposit transfers to/from in re their winnings.
Send messages to the message system like. "Your sweepstake ship (Army
Surplus Six) has won the Barnards Star race. You win 123 gc." Rules maybe
like a workplace sweepstake.

Is my house bugged? How did you know my wife called my "franks and

the "Scarlet Screamer"?

Concept is interesting. Lack of Automation limits idea as it is.
