Idea : Mark Heinrich
One challenge for managing things as a playing host is having complete
flexibility and discretion to add ships to the game. A conventional hull could
be potentially boarded, towed, destroyed…
GRAND MASTER
A solution
could be to make a ship that is completely over the top. Additionally another
simple component would be to make a completely and obscenely over the top
fighter type to be on that ship. Since this ship would be intended solely for
host to add NPC elements into the game, this hull should be:
Omniscient
– HUGE SCAN RANGE – 200,000
Omnipotent – HUGE, POWERFUL, PROTECTED,
INVINCIBLE –> mass = 1 M, shield = 3000, armor = 1 M, 100,000 super
fighters…millions of HG on board (immune to boarding) – immune to privateer
devices
Omnipresent – capable of placing ships , add a device that
will…transport all ships at Grand Master current location to their first
waypoint.
Fighter bays – lots of big ones
Construction bay – big
enough to build any NPC
Starting loadout – lots of MC and minerals, enough
crew, guests, ord, fuel etc to load out ships in game.
The intent is not
to take over a game, but provide a host with the ability to add elements
anywhere at any time during the game.
It could also serve as a Cerberus like beast, but maybe that could be another
NPC that could be more feasible to kill. A big nasty blocking the way to great
riches or a game objective in some Heroic Quest scenario.
Cerberus sounds good too, but as a separate idea I think. Sure! "Complete
nutters" might like to run a scenario of "everyone else" vs. "The Grand Master"
- that would be their "choice". I guess by changing what it starts with it might
be "scalable", but I think it should look distinctly "not part of the game - so
go away!"

IMO this sounds very useful for the host - as a tool. If it is essentially "not
in the game" it could be parked quietly in a corner of the map - provided it can
see everything from there. It wouldn't need graphics either really - just a
black ship tile with the words "You haven't seen me, right?" written on it.
8) (as above example?)
What you want is "The Naked God" (see the book by Peter F. Hamilton)
It
was actually a "device" made out of a naked singularity. Of necessity it was
sentient. However it had no motivation to do much (once its creators had
transcended). But it could be asked to do stuff. It was OK about helping
people.
It reflected light (as the light could not penetrate it) and
had an interesting shape. Sounds good for POVRAY. It needed no ship or
fighter attributes. It could translocate objects pretty well anywhere. One
primitive race thought it was a god, indeed they adopted it as their god,
not that it was bothered by that.
It'd be treading wobbly boards to create "a God" object perhaps. If
anything doesn't need graphics - its a host/scripter sitting in a ship
watching youse guys?
Actually - provided it is indestructible,
intrinsically - and uncapturable - all that. It could even look like the
Tourist, for example.
