"Elvis Lives"

Spaceship would look like the head of elvis (big "pomp" hair and sunglasses).

Devices:

"Jail House Rock" - Prisoner riot rate increases 400%. Destroys all prison/labor camps within 200LY. Disrupts insectoid nests (they won't work)within 200LY

"Hunk-a-Hunk-a Burnin' Love" - Range 100LY, "KILL" target ONLY. Solar Deflection Ray that attacks ship life support systems and ship control systems. Random damage between 20% to 70% if damage made is between 61% to 70%, then 5% of ord, supplies, meds, food explode per 1% damage to control systems, and 5% of colonists, crew, colonists & troops burst into flames per 1% damage to life support systems..... "Captain, our passengers and crew are spontaneously combusting! ELVIS LIVES!"

Inspired! So he really was abducted by aliens... does he increase happiness on nearby planets?

Really fun concept! I like the idea of The Return of the "King" too. This should be part of the character of this I think? Abducted by aliens for his music and charisma, and now back bigger and better to revel in his fame?

> RE: Spaceship would look like the head of elvis (big "pomp" hair and sunglasses).

Tricky! Perhaps a burger with a coif and dark glasses? 8)

Is this "capturable" or "lurable", and/or an indestructible thing?

Special devices
Can't comment on the ranges, but I like the effects. I also like Paul's positive aspects of increasing happiness too, perhaps with a concommitant decrease in productivity?

Burnin' Love! Huh? Nasty! 8) I guess this puts the "monster King" in the uncapturable classification - so how about its indestructibility? Total? or just "very tough"?

When a ship with the "Jail House Rock" device comes within 5 lyr of a "Prison Hulk" class ship both explode with the force of a Nova.  Bases without shields nearby suffer 1000*(30-range) damage points (whatever they are) on base structures and personnel.

<also>

This naturally suggests a new fun ship.    "Disaster Area"

The band, with full special effects, are on tour in a big black ship. A little black ship attached to the big one is ready to dive into a sun at the concert area. Their act has been banned by 5 major star-travelling races.....

<will add this as another idea>

Lynne suggests a ship which has an attractive effect on other ships, which follow it. They have a chance each turn to break away from its Charisma Effect.

Are we looking at a 3 way tie-up here for another doppleganger?

The Burger King,
Disaster Area - (from Douglas Adams' Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
http://hhgproject.org/entries/disasterarea.html
(reputedly based on Pink Floyd)
and perhaps
The Wandering Luvvies???

It doesn't need to be an indestructible or difficult ship to fight. It should be HUGE (like Elvis' fat days). Moderately armed. Jailhouse rock device should cost something to use. Minimal weapons.

Someone else suggested productivity loss (olly?) - maybe against mines, factories, farms - should be 'always on' trait, not necessarily a device. (People will be distracted by taking trips into orbit to visit Graceland).
Happines shouldn't be a factor - it would not be fair for your own race to be happy, but not offer the same benefit to the enemy, and who wants the enemy happy?

Ship should cost alot.

Nearby Gambling Decks, Show Lounges, etc should drop in efficiency to 25%.
This is because they can't stand the competition!

Uh, huh, huh...

Cool!

I am not sure how to make this happen, but give it a "Lives Again" Device.  After the ship is "destroyed" it would appear in random locations for the remainder of the game....like the Elvis sightings in the tabloids.

LOL!

But not as a workable ship, but more like a ghost ship - its there, but it cant attack, move or anything, but the sensors will show otherwise, it can still cause productivity problems in its radius - distracting all the believers.

Definitely!
This would make it an uncapturable, but destroyable, I think.
As for regenerating the thing, Mark's "Grand Master" would be useful for recreating the thing when needed I think. Host discretion.

I thinking more like in case a ship is in combat range, it won't initiate battle - it would be like a wormhole or whatever - you see the info, but you cant do anything with it.

As for the "popping up" effect - the ghost ship will randomly float around until another is built. I would suggest that only one of these ships be allowed to exist at any given time.

Self destructs if captured?

I *bow* to the expertise of the gurus in assessing how easy that is to code.

We do, however have a number of ideas that fit in the category of "indestructable and uncaptureable" - and they're mostly just "annoying" things like this.

We need mechanisms for these anyway - like "Autorepair" and "No bridge".

Being destructable but passive is not a problem if the Host site manager can add a new one when the old one gets destroyed - this is what the Grand Master allows.

Did anyone tell you that your all nuts!
