Aaaaarghhh!

Using the AI

 by Olly Harlow and Paul Honigmann

Not difficult!

You will need to have VGAP4 HOST 194 or later installed. Crucial.
If you need this be sure that you use the link for Tim's site as posted on the links page here. The site changed from of olde.

Set up your game in a Game Slot using Master.exe as you like. You can find a basic guide for this in the
Newbies Guide - page 1

When you run Host.exe and get to this screen

Click on the slot you selected for your game and then click "Players"

You should get something like this

Select the player you want as the AI and click on the number.

There is a new tick box to select the player as an AI player.
Hit Done.

The rest is up to you!

Some other things you might need to understand, I guess?

"Knowledge" from the  FAQ-Master - Paul Honigmann -aka  Klingon Kommand.

1 - It is a HOST option. So only the Game Host can switch it on. Not you as a player only.

2 - It was Introduced - but not documented - in Host 194.

3 -
Empires which are unplayed for 10 turns begin to accumulate damage to ships etc. Host counts the turns played by the AI as "not made turns". Thus all AI ships increase their damage until they blow up ("decaying empires...").

4 -
If an empire is unplayed for 10 turns, the AI kicks in. It sets "attack on" for all other players - it doesn't understand alliances. Let's say the AI takes over the Birds. Ironically, if someone was already allied with these Birds, for example, the Bird player had turned on "share contact data" and "allow commands" before droping out, the AI is not intelligent enough to switch those off. So it's at war with its former ally, but will allow them to set commands for its ships and bases! I know of one game where this happened and the old ally simply set the AI's bases to "GBA" (Give Base to Ally). In another, the former ally podded everything not nailed down to his own bases.

Paul asked Tim some questions when the AI  first appeared and these are the answers...

* * What races does it work for?
All races that can build  a pod launcher
* Does it cheat?
A little
* What are its limitations?
Does a really poor job playing the Cyborg and Solorian. It NEVER allies with anyone
* Is it intended for maintaining dropouts' races? Could it play 4 different dropouts in a 20 player game or only one?
Yes
* Is it intended for teaching people how to play by giving them a half decent opponent?
Yes.
* Does it preserve alliance information, and continue to work with allies when someone drops out?
No, it goes on the attack.
* If I go on holiday for a month, could I leave my empire in its charge, then pick up again when I return - or is it a "once you've handed over, Host cannot hand it back" thing?
It can be turned on and off using host.exe
* Is it host-side or client-side?
It is host side only.

That about wraps it up.
Enjoy!!
